Neither in the authorities was able to identify NBR’s Matiur, Bahauddin Nasim

Date:

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) member Matiur Rahman could not be identified by the Anti-Corruption Commission, the media, or the politicians, according to AFM Bahauddin Nasim, the ruling Bangladesh Awami League MP, on Wednesday.
He added that a goat had recognized him.
Bahauddin Nasim further emphasized how important it is for pertinent organizations to determine whether or not there are additional Matiurs of this type.

Nasim, who is also the joint general secretary of the Awami League, made this statement today in parliament during a general discussion on the proposed budget for the 2024–25 fiscal year.

The news has recently been dominated by allegations of corruption involving NBR officials, retired police chiefs, and army officers.

According to UNB news agency, Bahauddin Nasim also harshly criticized professional societies for endorsing dishonest public figures in their utterances.

He claimed that these associations are assuming the blame for corruption by endorsing dishonest people with comments.

Additionally, he emphasized the need to identify such dishonest public servants and pushed government agencies to take appropriate action.

Politicians, according to the AL lawmaker, do not intervene or choose a side in cases when other politicians are accused of corruption or wrongdoing.

Instead, they spoke up in favor of pursuing legal and political measures. That is what makes honorable politicians so great. But occasionally, we observe that a statement is made on behalf of the accused corrupt individual when there are accusations of corruption against them in a government, private, semi-government, or law enforcement organization, he added.

Put otherwise, he stated that such organizations bear the responsibility for the complaint made against the specific individual. “This obligation is placed on the entire company. We need to leave this situation.

According to Bahauddin Nasim, steps should be done to put Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s zero tolerance stance against corruption into practice by taking tough measures against dishonest people, groups, the government, and private enterprises.

Nasim made the argument that tough penalties for defaulters should be implemented in order to lower loan default rates in the future.

He stated that it is necessary to identify bank thieves, loan defaulters, money launderers, and those responsible for the increase in the cost of necessities.

“I believe that compiling a list and presenting it to the country is imperative,” he continued.

The leader of the AL declared that a special task force should be established to safeguard the nation’s citizens from this ruthless, autocratic, and self-serving group.

In a statement released on June 21, the Bangladesh Police Service Association denounced what it called a “smear campaign” carried out by some media outlets against both present and past police officers.

The BPSA asked the media to exercise greater caution when covering the force, calling recent media reports that target its retired and active officials “partial, ill motivated, sweeping, and exaggerated.”

The announcement coincided with legal action against claims made by former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed and his family, based on media accounts, that they amassed enormous amounts of illicit riches.

Asaduzzaman Mia, the former commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, has recently made news due to claims that he has accumulated illicit money.

In the meantime, due to a recent scandal about his riches, Matiur Rahman, the previous president of the NBR’s customs, excise, and VAT appellate tribunal, has been moved to the finance ministry’s Internal Resources Division (IRD).
