PM Hasina calls on party leaders and the wealthy to support the lower-class and impoverished

Date:

Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister and head of the ruling Bangladesh Awami League, urged well-wishers, members of the affluent class, and leaders and members of her party to support the nation’s lower-class, impoverished, and working-class citizens on Tuesday.

She claimed in a statement that the implementation of the “complete shutdown” scheme and the recent events at the center of the quota movement have paralyzed the lives and livelihoods of the common people across the nation.

In addition, she said, BNP, Jamaat, and Shibir coordinated the setting of fire and vandalism of the metro rail, the expressway, BTV Bhaban, Setu Bhaban, the disaster management facility, and several public and private structures.

The prime minister went on, “They set fire to many private and government-owned vehicles, including trucks and buses, destroying them.”

According to Sheikh Hasina, in light of the situation, the government temporarily enforced a curfew on July 20, 2024, with the goal of protecting people’s lives and property and restoring normalcy to society.

She said, “This has hindered the regular income-generating activities of lower income and working people, especially daily wage earners like rickshaw and van pullers, hawkers, vendors, day laborers, and transport workers, putting them in unimaginable suffering.”

The president of the Awami League asked party members and officials, as well as affiliate bodies, from the center to the grassroots, to support the impacted population during this time of crisis, just as they did during the Covid-19 outbreak.
