Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister of Bangladesh, congratulated Narendra Modi on his third straight election victory on Wednesday. Modi also extended an invitation to her to attend the swearing-in ceremony of his government.
In an evening phone call, the prime minister congratulated Modi on behalf of the people of Bangladesh, her administration, her family, and herself on the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) landslide victory in the 18th Lok Sabha election. The NDA is led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Her deputy press secretary, Noorelahi Mina, told the reporters, quoting the prime minister, “Your strong leadership made this victory of NDA for the third consecutive term possible.”
“With this victory, India and its people will move forward in the world arena,” expressed Sheikh Hasina’s hope.
She also spoke about Bangladesh and India’s very amicable and cordial relations.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was invited by Narendra Modi to the government’s swearing-in event. According to Mina, Sheikh Hasina accepted the invitation.
Regarding the phone chat between the two leaders, the Indian Prime Minister’s office released a statement, according to Indian news agency ANI. “Under the renewed mandate towards achieving under the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Smart Bangladesh 2041, the two leaders committed to continuing working together to further deepen the historic and close ties,” the statement read.
The statement went on to acknowledge the notable advancements in the quality of life for citizens of both nations over the past ten years and expressed excitement about the prospect of building on the transformative relationship in all spheres, including people-to-people interactions, energy security, connectivity, including digital linkages, and partnerships for economic and development.
