The bank statements of Aktaruzzaman, the main suspect in the murder of MP Md Anwarul Azim of the Jhenaidah-4 constituency, and nine other people, must be provided, according to a Dhaka court decision. The ruling was made on Monday by Judge As-Shams Jaglul Hossain of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions.
Public prosecutor Taposh Kumar Pal of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court informed Prothom Alo that the police had filed an appeal with the court requesting the bank statements of the ten individuals responsible for the murder of Jhenaidah-4 constituency members. The plea was accepted by the court.
As per the court decision, the detective branch (DB) police, the investigative agency in this case, would receive the transaction history of these bank accounts from the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit.
Shilasti Rahman, who was taken into custody by the DB police in relation to the murder, is currently recording her deposition in the case before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court.
Prothom Alo received confirmation of the development from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) crime and information department sub-inspector Jalal Uddin.
Shilasti and two other accused were brought before the court by the DB police after they were questioned for eight days on remand and made an application to the court to examine them again on remand, according to the police and pertinent sources in the court. The accused was placed on remand for a further five days after the court accepted the plea.
Later, the police brought Shilasti before the judge and filed an appeal to have the case deposition recorded on Monday in accordance with section 164. In the afternoon, Shilasti began recording the case deposition with the court.
Faisal Ali and Syed Amanullah (Shimul Bhuiyan) are the other two people arrested in Dhaka. For now, they are both in police custody.
On May 12, MP Anwarul Azim traveled to Kolkata for medical care. He passed away in an apartment in Kolkata’s New Town neighborhood. The Bangladesh Police received information from the Kolkata Police’s analysis of the apartment’s CCTV footage.
The DB police detained Bhuiyan and two other people based on the intelligence report they received from Kolkata. They receive a variety of thorough details about killing Anwarul and getting rid of the body.
According to investigation-relevant officials, Anwarul’s body was dismembered by the murderer and disposed of in trolley bags. In Kolkata, some of the body pieces were thrown into a canal.
Mumtarin Ferdaus, a politician, filed a complaint with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station earlier, claiming her father was kidnapped on May 22. In this case, the three suspects were later seen to be detained.
Akteruzzaman, also known as Shaheen, a US expat, planned to kill MP Anwarul Azim in Kolkata. He used Tk 50 million to hire the murderers. Shimul Bhuiyan played a significant role in the murders. His home is in Khulna’s Phultala upazila, in the Damodar Union. He is the leader of the Purba Banglar Communist Party, an outlawed hardline group.
In addition to these three, two other people have been detained in relation to the incident from Dhaka and Kathmandu, respectively, under the names Jihad Howlader and Md Siyam Hossain.
Within a week of the murder, according to the police, Akteruzzaman departed the nation for Kathmandu. Afterwards, he traveled via Dubai to the US.
