Haji Salim, an ex-MP, is detained

Haji Mohammad Salim, a former Awami League (Dhaka-7) lawmaker from the Bangshal neighborhood of Dhaka, was taken into custody early on Monday by detectives from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, according to the authorities.

The issue was verified by Md. Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan, joint commissioner of the DMP (DB-North). He claimed that after receiving information, a Detective Branch team drove through the Bangshal neighborhood around 1:30 am and took him into custody.

He said he is a defendant in instances that several police stations have been notified about.

In a 2022 case concerning the accumulation of money beyond known sources of income, a Dhaka court sentenced him to prison.
