According to Farhad Hossain, the minister of public administration, the government does not intend to increase the age requirement for government employment to 35 years old.
“There will be a significant increase in the number of applicants for various positions. In response to a question on Wednesday before the parliament, he stated that there might be increased competition for jobs as a result, which could irritate applicants under the age of thirty.
He made the point that students now finish their master’s degrees in 22–23 years and their SSC in 16 years, with no session jams occurring at educational institutions.
He said, “They get at least 6/7 years to apply for a job even after obtaining a master’s degree, as the maximum age limit for joining government jobs is 30 years.”
In addition, he stated that the hiring process takes two and a half years to finish for those who apply inside the 30-year age range. “Therefore, it is actually closer to the demand to raise the minimum age of thirty to thirty-five years to join the service.”
The minister stated, citing a report from the Public Service Commission, that in the 43rd BCS test, the youngest age group of 23 to 25 years old accounted for the largest percentage of recommended candidates (37.68 per candidate). On the other hand, the elder age group, which includes people over 29, had the lowest share, at just 1.71.
The minister also stated that the increase in the retirement age from 57 to 59 years old has naturally resulted in fewer openings. There will be a significant increase in the number of applicants for various positions if the age requirement for employment is raised.
The candidates under 30 years of age may be disappointed if the age limit is raised, he continued, but those who are now above 30 will still have the opportunity.
