UN human rights head calls on government to interact with protesting students

Volker Turk, the head of UN Human Rights, has pushed Bangladesh’s authorities to interact with the student demonstrators.

“All violent acts and use of force, especially resulting in loss of life, must be investigated and perpetrators held accountable,” the UN body said in a message posted on Wednesday via X, the former name for Twitter.

The statement states that the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression are essential human rights.
