Shamim Ahmed, also known as Shamim Mollah, was a former Jahangirnagar University Chhatra League leader who was wounded in an attack by other students. He passed away.
On Wednesday night, the Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College Hospital in Savar confirmed him deceased. Selimuzzaman Sujan, the hospital’s on-call physician, verified the information.
“He was brought to the hospital around 9:15 pm at night,” said physician Selimuzzaman. Upon examination, we discovered that he had passed away. In reality, he had already passed away. Following a post-mortem, the reason of his death can be determined.
The information of Shamim’s passing was also verified to Prothom Alo by Inspector (investigation) Md Kamal Hossain of the Ashulia police station.
Shamim Mollah was earlier beaten and hurt by a group of students on the Jahangirnagar University campus on Wednesday afternoon. Afterwards, he was turned over to the university’s proctorial authority before the police.
Shamim Mollah resides in the neighborhood next to the university’s campus, according to university authorities. He was allegedly implicated in the assault on the anti-discrimination students who had taken refuge at the vice-chancellor’s house on July 15th, which was spearheaded by the Chhatra League and outside miscreants.
Eyewitnesses and security personnel stated that on Wednesday afternoon, Shamim Mollah was standing at a store next to the university’s Joy Bangla gate. When they heard this, some university students went there, where they thrashed and detained him. Subsequently, the university’s probation team showed up.
At one point, security personnel assisted in getting him to the security unit. After receiving information from the proctorial team, a police team from the Ashulia police station later arrived at the security unit. Shamim was being questioned at the time by the police and the prosecutorial team over the night of July 15, 2015, attack on students at the vice-chancellor’s house. He was then turned over to the officers of Ashulia police station.
