Shahriar Kabir, the former railway minister Nurul Islam and chairman of the Ekattorer Ghatak-Dalal Nirmul Committee’s advisory council, has been taken into custody by the police.
On Monday, at about midnight, Shahriar Kabir was taken into custody by police from Banani’s home in the capital. Prothom Alo received confirmation of this information from Inspector (investigation) Sohel Rana of the Tejgaon police station.
According to sources, Shahriar Kabir is charged with multiple murders that have been reported to the Jatrabari police and other capital police stations. He’s going to court today.
The lawsuit, which centers on Hefazat e Islam’s May 5, 2013, rally at Shapla Chattra against Sheikh Hasina and 23 other people, including Shahriar Kabir, was brought by mufti Harun Izhar, the joint secretary general of Hefazat e Islam, for alleged crimes against humanity and genocide.

In the ninth parliament, in 2008, Nurul Islam was elected as an Awami League member from the Panchagarh-2 constituency. After winning three elections as an MP, he was appointed minister of railroads on January 7, 2019.
Since the Sheikh Hasina government was deposed on August 5th by a student-led insurrection, a total of 31 ministers, MPs, advisors, and key leaders of the Awami League government have been jailed.
